History of Dubarry

Dubarry Of Ireland is a clothing designer and manufacturer which specializes in sporty, Irish outdoor wear such as tweed jackets, waterproof jackets, long-sleeve pullovers, scarves, hats and boots. The company began operation in 1937 in County Galway, Ireland as a manufacturer of hand-stitched moccasins. The look of today's Dubarry boots could best be described as "fashionable-rustic," an interesting blend of durability, function and elegant European bucolic styling. The pride Dubarry takes in their Irish heritage is reflected in the fact that all of their boots are named after counties in Ireland. All boot prices quoted are accurate as of May 2011.

Dubarry Boot Design

Dubarry boots are constructed with a trademarked leather which they refer to as "DryFast-DrySoft Leather." Essentially, this is leather which has been tanned in such a way that it becomes more impervious to water penetration, and less likely to shrink and harden as it dries. This increased resistance to water destruction makes it easier to aggressively wash off dirt and mud with a spray hose without ruining the boots. Further waterproofing of all Dubarry boots comes courtesy of GoreTex lining. These linings further prevent water penetration from the outside, while allowing for foot breathability and absorbing sweat for comfort and hygiene. The soles of Dubarry boots are directly fused to the lower hem of the boot uppers, rather than being stitched to them, to prevent water seepage and eventual tearing between the upper and the sole. Despite the fact that the boots are designed to take a beating, Dubarry also offers a leather conditioner and leather cream to keep your boots looking new and extend their life even further. Lastly, those who do a lot of walking and/or work outdoors will be pleased to note that all Dubarry boots are designed to be lightweight for easy movement.

Types Of Dubarry Boots and Prices

There are two lines of Dubarry boots for both men and women: the Country Boot line and the Coast Boot line. The Country Boot line of Dubarry boots is intended for inland trekking, while the Coast Boot is intended for working on the waterfront or on fishing boats. Despite the fact that Dubarrry Country Boots are made for land use, they are all nonetheless waterproof. The lowest priced boot in the Country Boot line is the women's Kilkenny Ankle Boot, which comes in either black or mahogany colors, and which is priced at $290. The highest priced boot in this line is the unisex Wexford Boot, which comes in walnut brown, and which is priced at $535. The cheapest boot in Dubarry's Coast Boot line is the Newport Lightweight Sailing Boot, a black and gray boot priced at $285. On the other end of the price spectrum in the Coast Boot line is the Crosshaven Extrafit Coast Boot, a navy and gray boot priced at $480.
